“The Early Church Fathers” is a 38-volume collection of writings from the first 800 years of Christianity. Most of the text is online, but not the indexes. Bible-believing Christians understand that the term “church fathers” is a Catholic concept (adopted by Protestants) and it is not biblical. The Lord Jesus Christ warned against calling men fathers in the sense of a religious title. The only authoritative writings we have are those in the Bible canon. The writings of early church leaders are helpful to determine what various men believed, but they have absolutely no authority. Another problem with this collection is that it makes no clear distinction between sound teachers and heretics. In fact, most of the “fathers” included are heretics. In spite of these reservations, this massive set of documents is a valuable historical research source.
